Canada Water Leisure Centre, London

The Building
Opening in 2025, the Canada Water Leisure Centre represents the next generation of leisure facilities in London. The centre features a state-of-the-art 25m, 8-lane Main Pool and a separate Teaching Pool with a moveable floor.
Located at the heart of the Canada Water masterplan, this landmark building is part of a wider regeneration project that will deliver up to 3,000 net zero carbon homes, 2 million square feet of sustainable workspace for 20,000 workers, a new town square, and London’s first new high street in a century.
The Requirement
The facility’s design includes expansive high-level glazing in the main pool hall, along with prominent structural trusses and light fixtures above the pool. Regular access is essential for:
Cleaning the glazing to maintain natural light and aesthetics.
Maintaining and inspecting the trusses.
Servicing the overhead light fittings to ensure the pool hall remains brightly illuminated.
All access had to be provided in a way that minimised disruption to daily operations. Given the leisure centre’s busy schedule, works needed to be carried out safely, quickly, and without impact on pool users.
The Solution
Eurosafe Contracting Ltd worked closely with Severfield to design, supply, and install a Fallprotec Rope Access Monorail System along the structural steel trusses above the pool.
This system enables rope access technicians to safely reach all glazing, trusses, and light fixtures without the need for disruptive scaffolding or MEWPs. Importantly, the system was designed to withstand the challenging pool environment, with all materials carefully selected for durability in a highly chlorinated and humid atmosphere.
The end result is a discreet, long-term access solution that ensures ongoing maintenance can be performed efficiently, safely, and with minimal disruption to leisure centre operations.
The Outcome
The monorail system provides a permanent, low-visual-impact access solution, allowing rope access technicians to safely and efficiently carry out cleaning and maintenance. The installation ensures long-term durability and operational continuity of the leisure centre.
