Essent Head Office
The client
Eurosafe were recently involved in the sustainability renovation of the head office of Essent in Den Bosch.
Essent employed the Dutch Main Contractor, Van Wijnen, to take on the project coordination of the sustainability of its head office.
The requirements
Part of the renovation required the installation of 144No solar panels to the steeply sloping Kalzip roof areas of the building and the replacement of old glazing with new, energy-efficient units.
Van Wijnen contacted Eurosafe due to the extremely problematic access requirements associated with the installation of the PV Array. The roof also required a full clean prior to the installation of the solar panels. Erecting scaffolding would have proved to be an extremely costly and unsightly exercise, and would not have provided the level of safety and mobility required to carry out installations of this nature.
The solution
Due to the steep incline of the roof areas, Eurosafe determined that the most appropriate method of carrying out the works would be to utilise Rope Access Techniques. This involved the installation of temporary rope access anchor points to the Kalzip roof sheet and all work to be carried out by highly skilled Rope Access Teams.
At the request of Hurks, a company that builds, develops and maintains buildings, Eurosafe also carried out the replacement of the glazing to all elevations of the building. The use of roped access techniques, combined with a suitable crane and lifting equipment ensured that the project was delivered in a timely, safely and cost-effective manner.
Rope Access is one of the most secure solutions for working at heights. The system is efficient, cost-effective and sustainable with very little environmental impact. Access can be safely gained to the most challenging places where a variety of tasks can be performed ranging from inspections to installations.
