Testing Latchways Mansafe System

Cable system test and inspection requirements

21st February 2023

Cable-based fall protection systems consist of steel wires attached to end anchors and a series of intermediate points, allowing users to move along the length of the line safely by attaching a body harness and lanyard to a traveller device.

These bespoke systems can be designed, supplied, and installed by experienced fall protection installers, providing tailored access solutions for a wide range of commercial, leisure, retail, aviation, healthcare, industrial, residential, and stadium developments.

Despite their highly engineered designs and aesthetically pleasing appearances, cable systems must undergo rigorous testing and inspection to ensure their safety and compliance.

Inspection Requirements

Fall protection systems must be inspected in accordance with the Working at Height Regulation 2005 to ensure the safety of those working at heights. It is essential to have a certified inspector from one of the leading cable-based fall protection manufacturers to inspect, test, and certify the equipment. This certification allows them to provide clients with a comprehensive cable-based fall protection inspection and testing service.

Testing of cable systems is essential for safety, compliance, and peace of mind. Your chosen test and inspection provider should be able to confidently test, inspect, and certify any cable-based fall protection systems, regardless of the size of your building portfolio. To ensure that every swaged system is safe and compliant, they should go beyond the sample testing strategy and physically test each system on their initial inspection. This gives the building owner complete assurance that their systems have been correctly inspected, tested, certified, maintained, and are safe to use.

Cable-based fall protection systems, known by brand names such as ManSafe™, Latchways™, Uniline™, Protecta™, and Sala™ systems, fall under the Class C Fall Protection category according to BS EN 795 standards. These systems, mandated by the updated European Standard EN 795 (2012), undergo rigorous design, manufacturing, and testing processes to anticipate and mitigate potential misuse scenarios. Regardless of their primary function—be it restraining falls or not—they must reliably support fall arrest loads.

At Eurosafe, we boast certification from leading manufacturers of cable-based fall protection systems. This accreditation empowers us to deliver a comprehensive inspection and testing service for fall protection systems. Our customers can trust in our expertise to confidently assess, inspect, and certify their cable-based fall protection systems, regardless of the scale of their building portfolio.
