Heathrow Control Tower

The Client
Heathrow Airport's Air Traffic Control Tower required a specialist access solution to enable safe access to high-level areas within the tower.
The restricted internal environment and multiple working levels presented a complex access challenge. A bespoke system was therefore required that could provide safe, stable access while operating effectively within the limited available space.
The Requirements
Eurosafe was tasked with developing a mobile access solution that would allow operatives to safely reach different high-level areas within the control tower.
The system needed to accommodate multiple working heights, provide appropriate collective fall protection and allow controlled movement within the restricted environment. It also needed to minimise its impact on the space when not in use.
The Solution
Eurosafe designed and developed a bespoke lightweight aluminium mobile access platform specifically for the control tower environment.
The system incorporated integrated ladders and multiple working platforms to provide access to the required working levels. Self-closing hatches, removable handrails and collective edge protection were incorporated into the design to support safe movement and working at height.
A purpose-designed track, trolley and mullion-clamping system provided controlled movement and stability, allowing the platform to be repositioned as required.
Retractable platform sections were also incorporated into the design, enabling the system to be stored discreetly when not in use and helping overcome the space constraints within the control tower.

The Outcome
The completed bespoke system provided a safe, adaptable and practical means of accessing multiple high-level working areas within Heathrow Airport's Air Traffic Control Tower.
By combining multiple working platforms with controlled movement, integrated fall protection and retractable elements, Eurosafe delivered a solution specifically engineered around the constraints of the tower.
The result was a permanent access solution that provided the functionality required for ongoing high-level access while making efficient use of the restricted space available.
