Fixed ladder inspection, walkway inspection & stairs inspection – why regular checks matter
Fixed ladders, stairs and walkways are classed as work equipment and fall under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998. This places a legal duty on employers and building owners to ensure that fixed ladder inspection and walkway inspection are carried out by a trained and competent person.
Regular inspection is vital to identify defects, wear or damage that could lead to slips, trips or falls. As a minimum, ladder inspection and fixed ladder inspection should be completed every 12 months, with all findings formally recorded to demonstrate compliance.

Eurosafe Ladder, Walkways & Stairs Inspection Services
Eurosafe provides a professional ladder inspection service, including fixed & temporary ladder inspection, walkway inspection and inspections of stairs and gantries. Our inspections are carried out in accordance with British Standard BS 5395-3:1985, the Code of Practice for the design of industrial type stairs, permanent ladders and walkways.
During each ladder inspection and walkway inspection, our competent inspectors assess structural integrity, fixings, corrosion, impact damage and general condition. We also check that all moving parts are fully operational and that the system presents no obvious risk to users.
Every fixed ladder and walkway inspected is allocated a unique reference number and clearly tagged with the next inspection date. This makes ongoing inspection management straightforward and supports long-term compliance with current regulations.
Many organisations choose to outsource their ladder inspection and fixed ladder inspection requirements to Eurosafe, giving them confidence that their access systems are safe, compliant and maintained to the highest standard.
